For the iPhone and Pixel series, this year is a year of iteration. The most notable upgrade of the iPhone XS is the introduction of the iPhone XS Max, which enlarges the screen size, but other than that, the main difference lies in the adjustment of the camera's computational photography, and at this point, Apple lags behind Google. First, if you are struggling, or more accurately, just want to be more responsible for the cash you have on hand, then the price tags of these devices will convey some huge differences. Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are priced at $200 lower than iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, respectively. It’s crazy to spend $1,000 on a cell phone, but this is the world we live in, and honestly, considering the quality of time we spend on cell phones, it’s worth it.
As far as the screen is concerned, Pixel 3 has no notch, while Pixel 3 XL, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max all have notches. If you hate this gap, you may need to adapt and accept it for at least one or two generations, but Pixel 3 gives you a chance to move on. These are big devices with large screens, although in terms of absolute size, the iPhone still has a larger screen-to-body ratio. Although the smaller and larger phones are very similar in absolute size, the OLED on the iPhone squeezes out an extra inch, which brings the display to the edge.
As for the design, it depends on your preference or other factors, but I definitely think the iPhone XS has the upper hand in this regard. This is a high-end phone, because the price is higher.
It’s worth reiterating again that both Pixel 3 XL and iPhone XS Max are giant phones, but the width of the Pixel 3 XL is a bit smaller and the weight is nearly an ounce lighter. Below is a breakdown of the dimensions of the different equipment.

The least helpful specification is the camera hardware, because Apple and Google are increasingly shifting the focus to camera software adjustments as their distinguishing mark. The fascinating thing is that, considering the real potential dual lens, Google is maintaining a single rear camera solution, while the iPhone XS has introduced crazy features such as depth of field adjustment. But the lack of dual lenses on the back of the phone did not prevent Google from highlighting some of the new camera features they are developing, including what they call night vision, which is expected to achieve very good low-light performance through machine learning. I doubt it, but considering that the Pixel 2 cameras have proven to be so dazzling, I am sure they have something unique.
