Recently, Dainippon Printing (DNP) has developed passive matrix OLED panels using gravure printing technology. This type of panel is mainly used for thin electro-optical display cards that display variable information such as text.
Dainippon Printing (DNP) prototyped an OLED panel on a glass substrate having a thickness of 0.7 mm and 300 mm by using a self-developed special gravure printing machine and a special ink formed using a polymer-based O LED. Using this ink, a hole injection layer of about 60 nm, a hole transport layer of about 20 nm, and a light-emitting layer of about 80 nm were formed. These three film thickness deviations were controlled within ±4%, respectively, and there was no brightness deviation. The driving voltage is 12V. It can emit light with a brightness of 100cd/m2, so it can display clear and variable text information. The dimensions of the prototype OLED panel are 192 mm x 32 mm x 1.4 mm and 110 mm x 37 mm x 1.4 mm. The pixel spacing is 1.0mm and 1.15mm, respectively, while the pixels are 32×192 and 32×96.
Dainippon Printing has been developing polymer OLED materials that can easily turn organic materials into inks, and has actively developed manufacturing technology based on high-precision gravure printing technology. In the future, Dainippon Printing will use its own developed printing method to promote product development by fully utilizing the characteristics of OLED panels.
