Vive Pro is a virtual reality helmet that combines 2880 x 1600 pixel resolution, dual AMOLED 3.5-inch diagonal screen, 90 Hz refresh rate, and high-quality integrated headphones. However, there is a special feature, the stereo front camera, which has been ignored since the earphones were released earlier this month, until now.
Vive Pro developers announced last week that the Vive Developer Blog official update now allows you to fully control your headset's front stereo camera to develop your own mixed-reality experience. In addition to updating the OpenVR camera's API, developers will also gain access to the VIVE SRWorks SDK, opening up a range of possibilities that are limited by their imagination.
According to HTC, the SDK is broken down into three main modules, and developers can focus solely on content: depth modules, transparent modules, and 3D reconstruction modules. With these three components, the SDK can access advanced techniques such as depth detection, spatial mapping (static and dynamic meshing), placing virtual objects in the foreground or background, real-time interaction with virtual objects, and simple manual interaction. The SDK also supports native development and supports both Unity and Unreal Engine 4 plugins.
Needless to say, the list of possibilities for this new SDK is almost endless. Combining stereo camera technology with Vive Pro's spatial tracking capabilities, developers can create immersive experiences in VR, AR, and even both. To date, some of the most interesting examples of the SDK have centered around enhancing the connection to virtuality, allowing users to intervene and get rid of reality as they please.
In addition to the SRWorks SDK, Vive also showcased two new audio SDKs: the VIVE 3DSP SDK, which introduces Unity-compatible audio spatialization plug-ins for higher-order stereo effects and acoustic distance effects as well as real-world modeling. And the Vive Pro audio mode, which allows the user to switch between audio modes such as "conversation" and "alarm".
