Modulation wave, power supply ripple, power-up timing measurement new experience

Why is power supply ripple not directly captured by one button? Why is it so troublesome to analyze the comparison before and after the multi-channel power sequencing? Why is the waveform contrast so bad when analyzing modulated signals? In fact, every sense of user experience is an invisible space for product enhancement. These three troubles may now have new solutions.

First, the power ripple automatic capture

Experienced engineers know that when measuring power supply ripple, the [AutoSetup] function cannot be used to automatically capture ripple (Figure 1). This is very painful for engineers and line testers who are not familiar with the oscilloscope.

The ZDS3000/4000 series oscilloscopes are different, it can, as shown in Figure 2.

(1) Basic settings

In the normal test process, after the one-button capture waveform [channel coupling] defaults to “DC” coupling, it is not suitable for AC-coupled power supply ripple, so the oscilloscope needs to be set before measurement. The power supply ripple capture only needs to set one parameter and it can be used continuously, without repeating settings.

“DC” means [Auto Setup], all channels use DC coupling to sample and identify the waveform.

“Keep” means [Auto Setup], all channels keep the current channel coupling mode sample and recognize the waveform.

(2) Example test

1. Use the ZDS4054 Plus oscilloscope to measure the 3.3V power supply ripple of the Demo board, as shown in Figure 4 below. Note that the spring ground is used and the X1 position is used.

2. Select the input channel (here, channel [1]), and select [AC] for [channel coupling].

3. Click [UTIlity] to enter the system setting interface, click [System] and then click [Auto Capture]. At this time, you can select channel coupling as “Keep”.

4. Click [Auto Setup] to capture the power supply ripple with one button, as shown in Figure 2.

5. Subsequent power supply pattern test capture can be achieved by simply pressing [Auto Setup].
