China Mobile pushes 4G network

In the month, all parties reported that China Mobile Zhejiang launched a 4G trial of commercial services in Hangzhou and Wenzhou, and local users can go to the mobile business office to handle 4G packages. On February 18, China Mobile further stated that at the upcoming Barcelona Mobile Communications Conference, the core product and application demos are all around 4G. "Mobile will release the 2013 TD-LTE strategy to the world!"

At the 2013 China Mobile Annual Conference, President Li Yue said that TD-LTE (4G) is expected to enter the commercial first year this year. However, Ma Jun, the chief analyst of TTC Securities TMT, does not agree with this view. He believes that the maturity of 4G networks and terminals is not enough. The 4G era is not a bout. Even if there is commercial use this year, it is pseudo-commercial.

It is undeniable that China Mobile will launch a 4G eagerly high-profile release strategy. Due to the rapid development of data services and traffic services, the launch of 4G will become inevitable.

In terms of 4G development, China Mobile, which is frustrated with 3G, has its own ideas. “It can even be said that 4G bears the hope of China Mobile.” Ma Jun pointed out that on the one hand it can cope with the growth of mobile Internet traffic, and on the other hand it can promote The smooth evolution of TD-SCDMA can also establish the advantages of China Mobile in 4G to promote the sustainable development of the company. As a world-class leader company, China Mobile also hopes to lead the global TDD technology and industry evolution.

China Mobile plans to deploy 4G commercial trials this time and publishes a high-profile 2013 TD-LTE strategy. According to Ma Jun, on the one hand, it is necessary to give outsiders confidence to express the determination that China Mobile must do. On the other hand, China Mobile has not had a fixed network license. It hopes to make up for its own shortcomings with the rapid development of 4G.

However, Ma Jun told the “Securities Daily” reporter that although China Mobile’s eagerness for launching 4G is urgent, it also faces relatively big challenges from a technical and operational perspective. It needs to take into account the maturity of 4G networks and terminals.

ZTE, IT Consulting Director of Zero Consulting, also believes that 4G is like an 8-core mobile phone, and the ecosystem of terminals, applications, and user habits is still maturing.

“Even if the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issues 4G licenses this year, it is unlikely that any operator will be able to officially commercialize 4G business this year! The fastest possible time is 2014!”

On February 2, Yu Yingtao, general manager of Zhejiang Unicom, put forward a sharp question on the mobile 4G trial commercial.

Although data is available, at present, Huawei, ZTE, and Samsung have developed multi-mode and dual-standby mobile phones that can support both 2G voice services and 4G data services. This kind of mobile phones has entered the test phase. In addition, the China Mobile TD-LTE terminal tender for September 2012 included 34,700 tenders involving 7 types of terminals, including data cards, MIFI, CPE, international roaming MIFI, multi-mode dual standby single-card smartphones, and tablet PCs.

However, Ma Jun pointed out that these have not yet been implemented, at present, there is no real mobile terminal to support 4G trial commercial.

Ma Jun also pointed out that the verification of network quality requires large-scale populations. At the time of the experiment, since there was no large-scale use of the crowd, the experience might be good, but when a truly large-scale user uses the network, various problems may arise.

He does not think that the true 4G era will come to an end. Although the TD-LTE trial network has made progress, there is still a big gap between mature commercial networks. China Mobile is not so optimistic about China’s network construction and operation rules and investment benefits.

"Even if China Mobile is assigned a frequency and issued a license, China Mobile will start building TD-LTE. It will take at least 2-3 years for its network to fully mature." Ma Jun published his pre-judgment to reporters. He believes that China Mobile has obtained a license. With the support of external chips and terminal manufacturers, it is the most important thing for China Mobile to launch a truly usable mobile terminal as soon as possible.

China Mobile intends to bundle China Unicom and Telecommunications into a technology-standard game. In China's independent innovation of 4G technologies, namely TD-LTE technology, China Mobile hopes to form an effective competitive landscape in which global multi-vendors and operators participate, instead of fighting alone, Ma Jun believes. China Mobile even hopes to bundle Unicom and Telecommunications to use TD-LTE technology, which can minimize risk.

The wish is good, but the reality is cruel.

"Telecom and China Unicom both certainly want to use mature 4G technology, that is, FDD-LTE technology. And FDD-LTE is definitely the only choice for China Unicom."

It is reported that China Telecom has started secret testing of the FDD-LTE trial network in cities such as Guangzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Suzhou three months ago.

"If the state exerts pressure from the industry level, the most likely scenario for telecommunications is to do both FDD-LTE and TD-LTE, but TD-LTE may be just a supplementary technology for telecommunications."

Ma Jun believes that this is a game between the government, enterprises and the market.
