Summary:
The circuit can provide CV/CC output for charging lead-acid batteries, including fire/burglar alarms and emergency lights.
The design uses many of the features of the TOPSwitch-GX series. Line voltage undervoltage and overvoltage (100 V and 450 V each) are implemented with a single resistor (R13). Undervoltage detection eliminates output jitter on/off, and overvoltage provides protection against input voltage transients and long-term surges, eliminating the need for an input MOV. The TOP244PN in the DIP8 package does not require an external heatsink and can be cooled by the PCB.
design feature
- Low cost, low component count
- Wide voltage input range replaces multiple linear designs
- High efficiency: >75%
- Integrated line voltage undervoltage detection (UV) and overvoltage (OV) power system surge protection
- Constant voltage constant current output (CV/CC)
- Output voltage with temperature compensation
- Monitor input to measure charge status
