Samsung begins mass production of mobile 4GB DRAM memory chips

March 25 news, according to foreign media reports, the world's largest memory chip maker Samsung Electronics said on Thursday that it has begun mass production of new mobile DRAM memory chips. This memory chip increases the memory density in a thinner package.

Samsung said in a statement that Samsung began mass production of 4GB low-power dual data rate 2 (LPDDR2) DRAM memory chips based on 30nm technology earlier this month.

Samsung developed mobile DRAM memory chips last December. Samsung said that it is the first manufacturer in the memory industry to use 30nm technology to produce this memory chip. This will increase the chip's production efficiency and save costs. The new chip is about 60% more efficient than previous chips.

The latest mobile DRAM memory chips can be used on smartphones, tablets, and other thinner, lighter, and faster mobile devices. This new type of DRAM memory chip stacks only two chips together to the same density where four chips are stacked together, reducing the size of the chip. Hong Wan-hoon, executive vice president of Samsung's memory sales and marketing division, said in a statement that this new mobile DRAM memory chip will allow our OEM customers to bring more differentiated, high-performance mobile devices to market faster.
