TRINAMIC launched a new 4 amp stepper motor driver chip

The world's leading motor and motion control developer TRINAMIC has recently released a new stepper motor driver chip with a drive current of up to 4 amps, enriching its existing microstep control stepper motor driver product line. The new TMC2660 integrates a pre-driver and power MOSFET tube. The pre-drive part can calculate the motor coil current in real time, and the power MOSFET amplifies the current to drive the motor.

The chip uses a multi-chip module packaging technology, which encapsulates the driver and amplifier in a single chip to achieve the lowest power consumption. It is currently used for 4 amp stepper motor drivers. The TMC2660 has an Rds of 65 milliohms and consumes only 2.8 watts at 4 amps, which is an 85% reduction from the most competitive solution before. The low energy consumption of the new chip eliminates the need for heat sinks, realizes a highly integrated panel design, reduces the number of components and reduces costs.
