Atmel® CorporaTIon, a leader in controllers and touch technology solutions
Released a new automotive-certified maXTouch device for in-vehicle control systems. The new device brings the smartphone experience to today's cars, even when wearing gloves. New products for automotive-certified maXTouch devices include the mXT143E and mXT224E touch controllers, which can be used to design small automotive touchscreens and touchpads up to 7 inches, including automotive center console displays, navigation systems, wireless human machine interfaces (HMI) and Rear seat entertainment system.
The mXT143E and mXT224E controllers are used in smaller touch screens and touchpads to further complement the company's growing portfolio of automotive-certified touch controllers, which now support 2" to 12" touch screens and touchpads.
The release of the new automotive-certified maXTouch device strengthens Atmel's market leadership as a touch technology innovator and supplier. The maXTouch product line is known for its superior performance and rich feature set. The series features unrestricted touch recognition, fast response, high precision, robust operation and low power consumption.
Car-specific embedded functionThe mXT143E and mXT224E devices are fully automotive certified (Grade 2, AEC-Q100 Standard Grade 2, AEC-Q100 requirements) with dedicated embedded features to meet automotive design requirements, including support for high temperature environments and reliable operation in harsh environments. And support for gloved finger operation.
With a high signal-to-noise ratio of 80:1, the new product is ideal for noisy environments and fully supports the operation of automotive touch screens or touchpads.
The mXT143E / mXT224E devices also embed X/Y position calculation and post-processing algorithms to eliminate unintentional touches. The user can perform multi-touch gestures (shrink, stretch, etc.) while distinguishing and rejecting unintentional touches such as palms resting on the screen.
The new device provides true 12-bit touch capability, allowing up to 10 fingers to simultaneously touch and track the X/Y coordinates of each finger, allowing for the highest possible linearity and precision, and easy to quickly apply to HD displays. Users can configure the ratio of X-ray and Y-line to support a variety of display ratios from 4:3 to 16:9.
Stephan Thaler, director of automotive touch product marketing at Atmel, said: "Atmel brings the touch experience of consumer products to the car, even if the driver wears gloves. With the mXT143E and mXT224E devices, just Smaller car touch applications, such as center console touch screens or curved touch pads, can be used with a single controller to reduce development time, system complexity and cost."
Other features for maXTouch devices for automotive applications include frequency hopping frequency hopping during pulse transmission, self-calibration, integrated detection to meet EMI/EMC requirements, and high reliability in harsh environments. With a scan speed of up to 280 Hz, design engineers can design character recognition functions to achieve alpha or digital input to the vehicle's human-machine interface, another key feature of Hyundai.
