December 12 news, Google announced on Wednesday that it will close the Google News (Google News) service in Spain, because Spain is about to implement the new copyright law, as long as a small fragment of related publications appear in Google News-like services, Spain Publishers must charge for those services.
Google News’s managing director Richard Gingras published a blog post on Wednesday evening saying: "Because Google News itself does not generate revenue, this new rule is unacceptable to us."
Google said it will remove Spanish publishers from the list of Google News publishers and close the Google news service in Spain from December 16.
The new Spanish copyright law will take effect in January next year.
