HELLA develops new lighting system to help auto-driving vehicle communication

According to the Reuters According to foreign media reports, in May 2017, interACT start of the project, the new international R & D projects received EU funding. In the next three years, Hella and its project partners will study how to communicate between self-driving vehicles and non-autopilot road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers.

Lighting plays an important role when it comes to communication between vehicles and humans. Michael Kleinkes, vice president of lighting and innovation at HELLA, said: "However, today's interior and exterior lighting is far from a substitute for eye contact, gestures and language. To this end, the company wants to develop a new system to achieve this."

First, the researcher has to specify the scenarios in which communication is required. Then they want to study the best way to achieve the above test results, whether it is projection or symbol or color. Kleinkes said: "It is important to keep the vehicle communication running smoothly." Hella will also create a prototype and embed the lighting module in the vehicle. To achieve this, the partner will be involved and cover the entire value-added chain.

R&D is an important part of Hella DNA, and its focus is on new technologies involved in the automotive market's core market trends, such as: autonomous driving, interconnection and digitization, energy efficiency and electrification, and industrialization.

Hella is developing high-definition lighting systems, and the importance of the system is gradually becoming more prominent. In the future, lighting will have additional features.
