Molex Introduces Next Generation PoE plus Magnetic PDJackTM Connector

Molex , the world's leading provider of complete interconnect products, recently announced its next-generation PoE plus magnetic PDJack connector , a single-port controller that integrates power supply controller circuitry and PoE functionality into a single solution. The new PDJack connector is the industry's first integrated power supply socket that combines a PoE plus power supply controller with a bridge finisher and Gigabit magnetic components in a drop-in single port connector solution. Supports all PoE PSE type functions and meets IEEE802.3at compatibility, interoperability, thermal management and EMI standards. In the development of the PDJack connector, Molex partnered with MicrosemiTM and used its PD controller PD70200 to meet all power supply standards, including detection, classification, with inrush current limiter and overcurrent protection. The rugged PDJack connector is a fully shielded connector with integrated ESD protection for a wide operating range and passive airflow environment. To optimize power supply design, the PDJack connector is available in Class 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 models, delivering up to 25.5W from 37V to 57V. Two pin output power supplies and standard signal pins provide Ethernet connectivity with additional pins to power up the external DC-DC converter. PDJack controls all communication of the switch/router PoE controller for negotiating power requirements and managing the secure powering up and power down of IP devices, wireless access points, control panels, vision systems, and POS devices.

According to IEEE standards, PoE Plus requires a Cat5 or higher cable.
