According to a report by Semicast, a research institution, driven by the recovery of automobile manufacturing, the global automotive semiconductor market in 2010 is expected to grow by 16% compared with 2009, with an amount of US $ 18.4 billion, in contrast to the 17% decline in 2009. As the mainland of the BRIC countries, India, and Brazil continue to contribute to the increase in demand for automobiles, it is expected that automotive semiconductors will grow steadily in the next 10 years, with a chance to exceed US $ 35 billion in 2017.
In the past, the automotive semiconductor market showed a steady growth trend. In 2001, it was dragged down by 35% of the overall semiconductor market decline, and a slight decline occurred. The automotive semiconductor market reached a recent peak in 2007, amounting to US $ 20 billion. However, the subsequent decline in the automotive semiconductor industry for two consecutive years is expected to grow steadily in 2010 after the global auto market recovers.
Global light vehicle production peaked in 2007, with a total of 67 million units. However, it fell to 54 million units in 2009, and automotive semiconductors also declined simultaneously.
